Meet Our Mentor

Karl Feilder

Karl Feilder

Karl founded his first start-up in 1990 and sold it to Microsoft in 1995, the first of many successes he would achieve in the IT industry. 15 years as the CEO of technology companies resulted in three personal trade sale exits, two trade sale exits on behalf of external investors, the leadership of two companies to IPO, and recognition as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum in 2004.

In 2006 Karl turned his attention to the cleantech industry, founding and then selling his first cleantech company to Deutsche Post DHL in 2009. He then moved to the UAE where he started Neutral Fuels, the first commercial biofuels company in the Middle East. In the same year, Karl founded Neutral Software in New Zealand and Neutral Consulting in the UK. Karl was awarded Innovator of the Year 2011 by LOG Magazine for his work in pioneering energy and carbon savings in the Middle East with Neutral Consulting, in 2012 the Dubai RTA Sustainable Transport Award for Neutral Fuels, and in 2014 the Global Best of Green Award by McDonald’s for his Neutral Software products.

A multi-talented polymath, Karl is equally at home in the boardroom, in hi-tech and marketing circles, in front of the cameras of broadcasters such as CNN and the BBC, and amongst a loyal staff, many of whom have chosen to work with him for 20 years and more.

Karl is a serial entrepreneur, published author, experienced mentor, has an MBA from Henley Management College, and a B.Eng. (Hons.) Industrial Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire. In 2005 he presented his Masters thesis on the “Psychological profiling of start-up teams”, and in 2010 became the first Adjunct Lecturer at the Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi teaching the entrepreneurship elective.
